Unable to download Microsoft 365 as it says macOS 13 or later needed

Hi, I have recently renewed my 365 subscription. I have an old iMac (late 2015 27" intel) although my my software update is current (Monterey) when I try to download 365 I get a message saying the os needs to be 13 or later.

When I try to update my software t says I am upto date.

So a bit confused, so any advice would be helpful.

If you already have MS 365 apps installed on your Mac running Monterey you can continue using them as long as you have an active MS 365 subscription, you just won't get any further updates. MS 365 version 16.89.1 was the final version that was compatible with Monterey.

If you do not already have MS 365 on your Mac running Monterey, you can attempt to download & install 16.89.1 from this MS web page. Scroll down to September 17, 2024 - Office Suite (Without Teams) 16.89.1

MacOS 13 is not supported on your Mac, so there is no further update available for it.

Microsoft requirements are:

One of the three most recent versions of macOS. When a new major version of macOS is released, the macOS and the previous two versions.

That would means Mac OS 13, 14, 15 would be supported and Microsoft would drop support for Mac OS 13 when the next version is released.

Try accessing the MS 365 account through your web browser. Look to see if there is an option to download an older version of their Office Suite apps through the web interface for 365. A few years ago I stumbled across something that appeared to indicate it was possible to download an older version of the app this way, but I have no idea where that was located.

Otherwise, you can use your web browser to access the online version of Office.

FYI, MS will soon only be supporting macOS Sonoma, Sequoia, and Tahoe in a month or two whenever macOS 26 Tahoe is officially released. Keep in mind many third party developers, especially from the big names, will only support the three most recent versions of macOS....it is not just MS (old versions will still work, but if they have an online component, then that online component can break at anytime after the OS is no longer supported).
