My AirPods Pro are flashing orange and not reconnecting

one of my AirPods was destroyed and I had a replacement one from a different set of gen 2 AirPod pros. I forgot both sets of them on my phone and combined them into 1 case, I reset the AirPods in the case and when I follow the steps to reconnect ( hold down the connect button for 6 seconds) it flashes a white LED for about 2 seconds then it chimes and flashes orange. Nothing comes up on my phone or a friends phone saying that they are available to connect to either phones on Bluetooth. Otherwise it just flashes orange whenever I open the case. The AirPods and case are both charged.

Hi, TeddyKing02- When you put together mismatched AirPods, the case can’t authenticate them as a pair. That’s why you’re seeing the amber/orange flashing light, it means “error” or “not ready to connect.”

Apple designed AirPods so that only two buds with the same unique serial number will work together (even if they're both Gen 2 Pro). If you try to pair one from Set A and one from Set B, the case rejects them.

You'll need Apple to replace the mismatched AirPod so it matches your case and other AirPod

  • You can request a single replacement through Apple Support (they'll match it back up through it's serial number). Without warranty or AppleCare+, it'll be about $89 per bud, but with AppleCare+, it will be about $29. Once you have a correctly paired replacement, resetting + pairing will work normally.
