How do I use Apple Trade In funds when buying a refurbished Mac?

I am about to purchase a Mac Air via Certified Refurbish. I want to use trade-in funds from my current Mac Air. I'm not sure how to do this in the correct order, since I'll need my current Air to transfer content to the new one. And do I ask for the trade-in funds on an Apple Gift Card?

Note that you have the option of migrating from a current Time Machine or bootable clone backup of the old Mac, instead of from the old Mac directly.

Here is how it works:

  1. Purchase your product.
  2. Set it up at home and transfer everything before you trade.
  3. Erase your old device.
  4. Trade-In at your local Apple Retail Store at your convenience.
  5. You will be offered an option for a gift card or credit (with sales tax included) to your original form of payment.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Good luck! 👋🏼😉
