Returning a Mac screen to normal after it has dimmed

My screen dims if I've stepped away and not used my Mac for a little while. Is there an easy way to restore the screen to normal? I've pressed keys on my keyboard thinking that would reactivate it but to no avail. What I've been doing is hitting "restart", which is very difficult to do on a dim screen, but I shouldn't have to shut down my Mac and restart it just to get the screen to "wake up." Any suggestions?

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 15.5

Have you tried to just momentarily press the power button?

What apps & workflows are you running when the laptop screen is allowed to dim? Some workflows can be system intensive where it may take it a while to restore the video.

Are any external displays connected?

What is the exact model of your Mac & version of macOS? You can get this information by clicking the Apple menu and selecting "About This Mac". FYI, this information is usually required when asking for assistance online.

Try disconnecting all external devices just in case one of them is causing a problem.
