Apple Watch Ultra 2 – LTE Call Issue with AirPods Pro 2


Hi everyone,

I’m experiencing a strange issue with my Apple Watch Ultra 2 when I'm away from my iPhone and connected to the network via LTE.

When I try to make or receive phone calls using my AirPods Pro 2, which are paired with the watch, the call connects but:

  • I can’t hear the other person in the AirPods.
  • The other person can’t hear me either.

However, if I switch the audio output from the AirPods to the watch’s built-in speaker, the call works fine.

What’s odd is that the AirPods are clearly paired correctly with the watch — I can listen to music through them both before and after the call without any issues.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a fix or workaround?

The only workaround would be selecting the audio destination manually:

Choose an audio destination on Apple Watch - Apple Support


There might be legal reasons for that, for example not to wear AirPods while driving, but only Apple knows exactly.
