Macbook Pro 2024 - Continous Spinning Wheel
A frustrating issue has been experienced on a Mac. Whenever a file is uploaded through any web browser (Safari, Chrome, or Edge), a continuous spinning rainbow wheel appears for approximately 60 seconds, and then the upload or download fails entirely. This occurs with any file type upload, including via email, Canva, and GDrive.
The problem seems isolated to the user account, and several troubleshooting steps have been performed to narrow down the cause.
Observations:
- The issue affects all web browsers on the primary user account.
- There is over 250 GB of available disk space, so it is not a storage issue.
- The same problem occurs even when booting the Mac into Safe Mode.
- The issue does not appear on a newly created user account, where uploads work perfectly.
Troubleshooting Steps I took:
- Clearing all browser cookies and cache.
- Deleting temporary files.
- Creating a new user account (as an administrator) and confirming uploads work there.
- Attempting to fix the problem by deleting the primary user account and then recreating it with the same home directory. This did not work, as the issue immediately returned.
- Avoiding a factory reset to preserve some paid plugins and software.
- The issue even persists in safe mode.
Based on the tests, the issue appears to be a corrupted file or setting within the user account's home directory.
Goal: Resolve this issue on the primary user account without performing a factory reset.
Guidance is needed on how to properly migrate data to a new user profile without carrying over the underlying corruption.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!
