iPhone 14 is experiencing ghost touch

My iPhone 14 started to move and open apps on its own. I struggle with using the phone as soon as the screen lights up. It swipe and taps on random things on the screen rapidly. I've tried updating the software, turning it off for 3 hours, and resetting my phone. None of these have worked and it still has rapid ghost touches. It also overheats if I leave the screen open for longer than 2 minutes.

You have identified two potential problems:

  • Ghost touches are due to the digitizer built into the screen failing. You will need a screen replacement to resolve a failing digitizer.
  • The phone overheating may be a sign of the battery failing. If the Battery Health at Settings > Battery > Battery Health > Maximum Capacity, is under 80%, then it needs replacing.

In all cases, it would require diagnostics by Apple first, so I would recommend that you schedule an appointment.
