Microphone not working on iMac for Google Meet and Zoom

On an iMac running macOS 15.6 (24G84), the system mic works (Input level moves in System Settings), but Google Meet in both Chrome and Safari shows no input level bar and I also can’t hear others. I’ve reset mic permissions via tccutil, disabled Screen Time restrictions, verified Audio MIDI (Built-in Mic as default, 44.1k), restarted coreaudiod, and tested in a brand-new macOS user. The issue persists

System Settings->Privacy & Security->Microphone->see list of Apps that are permitted to use the microphone. Zoom should be on that list. Make sure permission is toggled on.

When an app wants to use the microphone it’s supposed to display a pop-up window requesting permission. Once you say yes it should stay permitted for future use.

Control access to the microphone on Mac - Apple Support

On the Google Meet website try clicking the settings gear icon. In Safari on my Mac it asks to be allowed to use the microphone and camera.
