Voiceover and Apple Intelligence for a visually impaired user with limited dexterity

Hi everyone, I’ve searched the discussions but couldn’t easily find a discussion that matched my query.

My partner used to use Voiceover, as she is visually impaired. But sadly, as she acquired a brain tumour and lost even more eyesight and then dexterity, she can’t really use it per usual methods.

we did buy her an Apple IPhone 15, trusting that Apple Intelligence might save the day, making intuitive, voice driven command of the Apple system possible.

Either I’m ignorant or too ambitious about the possibilities of such tech, but I would hope that one day, Anna could pick up the phone, and simply ask Siri to read the screen being displayed. Anna has some vision, enough to be able to scroll the screen, so could just ask the whole screen to be read, or, ‘Siri read this email for me’?

she finds VO too hard to use in its current guise, too hard for her to remember to double tap etc.

happy to discuss offline if needed.

Seeing and AI:

Leaving the phone on all day, I guess you could have access to it, without a passcode --but anyone would have access to it, and that is not what to do here. So, to see things better, using high-contrast may be the way to go about seeing this: Use Display and Text Size Preferences on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support

Provide your Feedback to Apple:

Do your Part: Provide Apple with feedback on this, letting them know about your concern.  Apple may not get back to you directly, but the more feedback they receive on this, the more they will know what is occurring, and what features to include in updates to come.. Apple will know nothing of your opinions and opinions, if you don't report it to them.

  1. Go Here: Feedback - iPhone - Apple
  2. Select: "Bug Report" for the "Feedback Type"
  3. Comment: that you want this to be an option and why. Include the URL of this thread.

"Thanks, but yes we’ve tried higher contrast, doesn’t seem to work for Anna’s specific, complex vision issues. no you shouldn’t have to leave AI active, listening and responding all the time, anna can unlock her phone easily via face. I will log that issue though. Thanks"
