iPad Air not charging/ turning on

My iPad Air is just over 3 years old. Two days ago when I plugged it in to charge, it wouldn’t recognize that it had been plugged in and stayed on the same screen which shows you a dead battery and cord to charge.

I tried hard reset with holding down the volume and lock buttons; I’ve also tried plugging it into my Mac.

For a split second did I see the Home Screen again after connecting it to my Mac but now it just keeps glitching and at no time when plugged into my Mac did my Mac show my iPad connected to reset it that way.

I’ve seen the screen where it recognizes it’s being charged but it’s not actually charging.

Is this a battery issue or something else? Is it even fixable

As described, your iPad battery has failed due to deep discharge - this being a condition from which the battery is unlikely to recover. If the battery has failed or is failing, the iPad may unexpectedly turn-off - or may not successfully boot to a running state even when connected to its Power Adapter.

For practical purposes, for battery service of qualifying devices, Apple usually exchange the iPad for a renewed/refurbished iPad of the same model and specification. The cost of the exchange is the same as would otherwise be charged for battery replacement. When exchanged, the replacement iPad is yours to keep. Given that your iPad, the battery replacement service might not be financially viable.

Exchanging the iPad is a quick and easy alternative - and if exchanged in store, is usually same day. Unlike iPhone, for which an in-store battery replacement might be possible, iPad’s must be sent to Apple’s service partner - this process taking potentially many weeks.
