My son cannot accept my invitation to join the family, as indicate he is part of another family

My 13 years old son has just created an apple account, with his iphone. I sent him an invitation for him to join the family, but when he clicks to accept it, he is notified that this account is already part of a family. It does not specify which one, and does not allow him to leave it (need for an adult). I have checked our respective apple account, no information. We are stuck.

Can you guide me in forcing the said-connection with a family preventing him to join ours?

How did he create the Apple Account?

what did he do exactly?

What account was being used on the device before he created his?

Did he completely sign out of the old account on his device? In all 4 locations an Apple Account can be signed into?

Renewed by who? Apple ? Some other party?

When he set it up, was the iPhone at the Welcome screen?

Or was it already at the home screen and he just logged in Settings?

Check the Apple Account logged in at Settings ➜ Apple Account ➜ Media & Purchases? Is it his account?

It is a renewed phone, bought few days ago, we cannot find any thing from an older account. He created his Apple account when requested to set up the phone.

We bought it via Amazon. the phone was on welcome screen and when checking as recommended, it is my son's account indeed.
