I dont know if you told the repair guy that that is an 1m old MacBook

The 1-year warranty does not include coverage for damage.

There are millions of Apple Macbook Airs being used throughout the world. If there was a fragility issue we would be hearing from many more users than just from you. Yes computers are fragile but normal use will not damage displays.

I’ve had several other Apple laptops that have survived extensive use and travelling but the Air will cost more than half its purchase price to fix after a few weeks light use.

The price to repair damage is what it is. The display is a major component of a computer and it is expected that a damaged display will be expensive to repair.

That is a decision you will have to make.

Since it is brand-new and despite the costs, I would get it fixed by an Apple Service Provider or Apple Store.

After the repair, check if you can still get an Apple Care+ plan for it.
