Preserving old photos in shared album after resetting iPhone 8

Hello! I recently gave my son my old iPhone 8. We want to create a shared album for the both of us containing my old photos from his phone. When he shares the photos to the shared album, will it be deleted when he resets his phone? Also, is there anything else he should know before resetting his phone?

The Shared albums are storing copies of the photos in iCloud. They will not be deleted from iCloud, when he rests the iPhone to factory settings and will return, once he enables the shared albums again. But it will be a long time until all albums will be back.

But there is another problem. The quality of the copies in the Shared albums is reduced to 2048 pixel at the longest edge for photos 720p for videos. Many metadata, like the locations and faces and captions will be missing. on older system versions even the original filenames and the capture date will be missing. It would be much better to pay for sufficient iCloud+ storage, at least for a month, and to upload the photos to iCloud Photos. This will save the photos in the quality they are now.
