I could use some help please!

A customer who bought one of my Titles complained that it did not work in the latest version of Final Cut Pro. While that might be possible, I believe that their issues were probably caused by something else, or maybe a case of buyer's remorse.

I cannot upgrade Final Cut Pro beyond what I have installed (10.4.10).

I'm asking for volunteers who can download, install and test the title in Final Cut 11+ and report back here about your experience. You are welcome to keep the title (called "Bottom Up") with my Thanks!

If there is a reported problem, then I have a remade version (that uses a different technique) I'd like to also test.

If you participate (download the template), *please* report your finding here along with the actual version of Final Cut Pro you are using regardless if others report the same information.

Thanks in advance!

The download is on this page:

PS — to enable automatic animation, set the Write Speed to a value **less than** 100%.

If you're worried about what this will do to a project — take it from someone who has crashed Motion and FCP *thousands* of times — it's no big deal. You can generally restart FCP without issue and delete the title (right away) OR if you have to, just delete the Title (installation) and reopen FCP and delete the "missing title" from the storyline.

... I wouldn't ask you to do anything "dangerous"!

Hi, Fox.

I have downloaded the title, and installed on my mac.

I am running FCP 11.1.1 on macOS Sequoia 15.6.1.

My mac is a MacBook Pro (14", M4 Pro).

The title loads and I can adjust nearly all the parameters just fine.

I tested this with text that is a few lines long, and switch several parameters, even while playing back, without any problem.

The only question I have is about the "Manual Animation" slider. I can adjust the slider but I don't see any changes in how the title behaves when I do that. It is not clear to me how this slider is supposed to affect the title behavior.

If you think it's useful, I may try it later or perhaps tomorrow, on another mac where I plan to try an OS that cannot b be named yet :-)

OK I got it to load on my M2 which has the Titles folder already installed but I can't see what the title is supposed to do?

It just writes one letter at a time from left to right? What is it meant to do?

Ian, if you try it with a longer text, you will see that the text gradually moves up on screen as new lines are written (probably why it's called "Bottom Up" :-)).

If you use only one line, of course, you won't see that.

I have only tested the basic movement of the text starting at the bottom and moving up for every new line and I can confirm that it works using both FCP 11.1 and FCP 11.1.1 on an M2 mini running macOS 15.5 and an M4 running macOS 15.6.1

What stops it working is having the Write On Speed set at a high figure.

Depending on the text I find that somewhere around 50 is OK.

I copied my Motion Projects/Titles folder (which was working OK) from the M2 across to the M4 and all was well.

So my creation of a new Titles folder originally must have had a problem.

I seem to recollect you mentioning in the past that it wasn't enough just to create a folder you had to do something connected with "localise"?

Previously I have never had any problems . . . though I am booting from an external SSD.

Thank you Luis and Ian for helping me out! I was somewhat sure that the customer either had other problems or they decided they didn't want the Title after all.

Seven people downloaded this title. For those who haven't yet — please respond to this thread so I can include you as "registered users" (only your forum identity is necessary if you want to retain your anonymity.) I would also appreciate the information for your experience as to whether the Title causes FCP to "crash" or "freeze".

@Luis, @Ian

When Use Keyframes is checked, the animation is dependent on Manual Animation. This slider can be keyframed for specialized timing as slowing down portions of the write-on, or even "Write Off" effects (keyframed in a negative direction). You must supply the keyframing (otherwise the text is just "off" by default). Turning off Use Keyframes will revert to the Write On Speed setting (but will not erase keyframing provided).

Using keyframed animation is very useful for multiple paragraph texts, especially pausing for the "carriage return" spaces (otherwise, it may be possible to use multiple spaces like " " to create a slight pause in the automatic animation — and that will depend on the Write On Style setting.)

The Write On Speed is initially set to 100% so that the title text can be applied and positioned before trying to animate the text. Actual speed always depends on the length of the text in the title and so should be adjusted when the text and formatting is finished.

Here's a demo video with some explanations/suggestions:

(You may notice the "100% made in Motion" statement/claim, which led to this question!)

Thanks again for your help! You are both registered users of the Title.

Making UI decisions can be difficult at times. I have the Write Speed set to 100% so that the text can be edited first. I'm sure there are many who prefer to see the animation first. It's amazing how complicated such a simple template can be!! I will have an update which will include a Edit Text On Screen checkbox (off by default) and setting the Write Speed to 50% as the default... a little more complicated... but a compromise.
