Apple Pay verification requirement for minors

Hi, I have been using Apple Pay since January 2025 and have never had to verify myself. I am under the age of 18 however have never had a problem. However, I was recently sent money by my dad and it asked me to verify myself which I saw no problem with however I do not have a State ID or Drivers license yet. Why is apple just now asking for verification if I’ve previously been sent and have sent money via Apple Pay?

Because Apple is not a bank and like every other FinTech (Google, PayPal, Amazon, Cash App etc.) must partner with banks to offer banking services. Apple uses Green Dot Bank.

All banks are regulated by federal and state agencies. Banking regulations kick in at various thresholds and require the banks to comply with federal banking regulations. You have reached that threshold.

You’re in violation of the terms and conditions of the account and during the application process exaggerated your age and now the bank is in violation of applicable federal banking regulations.
