How can I get rid of CenterStage in Facetime on my new Macbook?

I just purchased a MacBook Air - after my MacBook Pro became "obsolete". On this MacBook Air, Facetime has CenterStage as the default - the camera "follows" you in a distracting and distorting manner. I dislike this feature and want to turn it off forever. I have found videos online to disable the feature on your iPhone or, when you are using Zoom. But, as yet, I do not know how to disable it on my MacBook Air. I have enjoyed using Facetime for years but I'll need an alternative, if I can't get rid of the CenterStage feature. Thanks for any assistance.
