GarageBand sound issues on M4 Pro and Apple Display screen

Garage Band continually gives me sound problems. I am attempting to edit an interview, but every time I start the project there is no sound. I have selected the speakers on my M4Pro or my Apple Display screen. The volume is turned up everywhere that I see volume controls and it is hit or miss. I restart Garage Band, I restart my computer and eventually something works.

I am certainly doing something wrong, but this is starting to drive me crazy. I tend to leave my computer in sleep mode when finished. I also have a hand full of projects open at any one time.
