Voice Control and Siri conflict causing major accessibility issues on iPad Pro

I have a problem that only seems you need to my particular device. Using accessibility functions like voice control and Siri together seems to create constant issues with my screen not being able to turn on, or the screen is very dim and responsive. As a quadriplegic I rely on Voice control to navigate this device, however after talking to several senior advisors, no one has been able to solve my problem. As a matter of fact, they've been very capable of passing me to another senior advisor after promising Solutions, callbacks, and check ins.

Needless to say I'm very livid and I'm looking for solutions to help solve this problem on my own. I've asked for a replacement several times and have been denied. I've had AppleCare for the duration of my purchase of this device. I want results. I have over 60 videos of this device not working as it should. Many of these devices have already been shared with the senior advisor cease to contact me further on the matter. I'm seeking help from the community to either:

Contact Apple in a more formal method for complaints

Fix the issue of my screen blanking out, even though the device is plugged in and screen is set to never time out

Fix the number overlay issue I'm having with the keyboard regarding voice control

Fix the issue between Siri and voice control fighting over the microphone usage

Fix the issue with Siri not responding from the home screen when settings are set for Siri to respond from home screen

Fix the issue of voice control not responding from home screen

Fix the issue of up volume plus down volume plus power button not resetting the iPad properly

Fix the issue of the screen blanking out one or two seconds after a reset

I don't think these are hard issues to fix, Plus you could also take this device away from me for testing, maybe it would be helpful to you and your company in someway to prevent this sort of thing from happening to someone who relies on it so much. As of this message, I've had to do several workarounds which is never turned the device off, and always keep it plugged in. When not in use I dim the screen. Is this how you intended this device to be working? It's an iPad Pro. One TB. Lots of money. Lots of problems. Community, please help me, I don't know who else to turn to.

Hi, and welcome to this Apple (user-to-user) Community! :-)

Those who really know the accessibility software best are often those, like yourself, who make use of the accessibility features on their devices during a lot of their time.

Am no expert myself. We are all Apple users, like yourself in this community.

Yet, your post to the community deserves some response.

Apple's software is continually being updated and features improved. Updates are not always easy to become familiar with, as new ways of working sometimes have to be established, and integrated into the workflow.

Apple carefully documents how each of the features can be set up to work on various devices. For iPad, there's a whole section about the accessibility features in the Table of Contents in the iPad User Guide.

as well as YouTube videos about the accessibility features and how they work. Generally all that documentation keeps pace with the improved and added features that appear in updates.

Sorry to read about all those troublesome issues you are facing: As explained, am no expert myself, and we don't have a lot to go on for what is triggering all the various issues you face. Messaging in community has limitations.

We do not know which iPad Pro model you have, or which iPad OS 18 version is installed.

Keeping iPad up-to-date with the newest iPadOS software version often sidesteps issues:

About iPadOS 18 Updates - Apple Support says iPadOS 18.6.2 is the latest version

" This update provides important security fixes and is recommended for all users."

(Note: It is always wise to back-up your iPad first, before updating the iPadOS version)

Apple Support's online article: See how to: Keep the iPad display on longer - Apple Support

Eg: says:

"The iPad display eventually dims and locks (for your security). If you need the display to stay on longer (for example, when you’re navigating with Maps), you can change how long it takes iPad to automatically dim and lock."

_________________________________

"Change when iPad automatically locks

You can set how long it takes iPad to automatically lock.

Go to Settings  > Display & Brightness > Auto-Lock, then choose a length of time.

Delaying or preventing Auto-Lock may increase power consumption."

You may want to check how to: Adjust the screen brightness and color on iPad - Apple Support

Eg says:

"On iPad, you can make your screen dimmer or brighter (dimming the screen extends battery life). You can also adjust the screen color and brightness manually or automatically with Dark Mode, True Tone, and Night Shift."

✽ "Adjust the screen brightness manually"

"To make your iPad screen dimmer or brighter, do one of the following:

  • Open Control Center, then drag  up or down.
  • Go to Settings  > Display & Brightness, then drag the slider.

✽ Adjust the screen brightness automatically

iPad adjusts the screen brightness for current light conditions using the built-in ambient light sensor.

  1. Go to Settings  > Accessibility.
  2. Tap Display & Text Size, then turn on Auto-Brightness.
  3. Turning off Auto-Brightness may increase power consumption.

✽ More details in the above article.

Re: "Fix the number overlay issue I'm having with the keyboard regarding voice control"

Eg: The video below gives useful tips on overlays ... eg: seems numbers may dim until voice activated ?

There are other overlay options too.

Else: If not already using them:

Also explains how to use: "Dictation mode" "Spelling mode" "Command mode" for more control.

Also: With Voice Control, you can review the full list of commands, turn specific commands on or off

and even create custom commands.

Re: "Fix the issue with Siri not responding from the home screen when settings are set for Siri to respond from home screen Fix the issue of voice control not responding from home screen"

Wondering what happens ...

✽ eg: You ask Siri (or "command" Voice Control) to do something .... nothing ?

or

✽ You summon Siri (or Voice Control) and all is quiet ... try asking ?

Seems Siri used to say "Uh Huh ?" but now may expect we just ask a question or give a command etc ?

"Hey Siri, what's the weather going to be like today in (your city) "
