Missing Menu bar at top in Pages

I am new to Mac and have a Mac mini M4. In Pages, there is no Menu bar at the top (with File, View, etc) so I can't actually do much - even saving a file was a challenge. Have tried every solution suggested elsewhere, but nothing works. Most comments are about the bar below (with View, Zoom, Add Pages, etc on it). What about the Menu bar?

Most of us do not use Pages in full screen mode for the very reason you mention. With Pages in full screen mode, you must bump your pointer against the top of the screen to dynamically reveal the normal Pages menu items that you would ordinarily see when not in this mode.

You must click on the Pages application to make it the current application. That will reveal its menu bar.

This is true of any launched application in macOS. This is not done for you by passing a pointer over an application window. So, if you launched Pages and then clicked elsewhere (e.g., Desktop, or a Finder Window), then the Pages menu bar will not be shown until you click back on the Pages application window again.

I am not in full screen mode (one of the stupidest inventions ever. I am a seasoned Mac user. While I don't think I have updates pages recently, I may have uploaded an OS upgrade.

I can't even tell what version of pages I am using because there is no menu at the top of the screen.

What is this? Windows BS?

What can I do. I need to create a new document (because Apple stupidly removed the save-as function), then edit and save. I cannot do this because there's no menu bar.

So what am I to do? I can't even export it as a word document so I can edit it on my work computer.

You know what, Apple needs to fix this and THEN send users a written apology for their forced error. Despite hating win-d'ohs I am starting to think it is more reliable than my Mac.

PS - after further desperate fiddling, I see the menu are there, but the top level names are invisible. If I move my mouse to the empty menu bar the drop down and I can use them. Not great, but at least I was able to save my work.

I guess I will try rebooting.
