Document Extensions Continuously Showing Despite Removal

Document extensions like .pages, .txt, and .keynote constantly pop up on files in Finder and other folders despite manually removing them, deselecting the preference in Finder preferences, as well as turning on "hide extension" in the specific document's "Get Info" tab. This seems to have occurred after a macOS software update and has been a continuous issue through several subsequent macOS software updates.
