New 2025 MacBook Air - 8062 file copy errors

On my 2021 MacBook Pro, I could copy all (35) my desktop folders to an external drive

New 2025 MacBook Air same process yields 8062 errors - same external drive, tons of open space

First folder copies fine, subsequent folders fail - no matter what the first folder I copy / paste is - first one works, so not permissions, etc.

Same MacOS level on old and new Macs - 15.6.1

Seems like a SW (I/O) issue with new MacBook Air

Any ideas before I call AppleCare?? - Thanks

All, I do appreciate the replies and ideas - have tried or eliminated all the suggestions - as a ex IBM systems programmer maintaining and modifying mainframe operating systems, I firmly believe this is something to do with the BIOS on the MacBook Air - but cannot figure it out - I will talk to Level 2 at AppleCare and report back - thanks again

Sorry to call this out but it needs to be said

Apple computers do not have a traditional BIOS but instead use Extensible Firmware Interface (EFI) firmware

One may reconsider there position on this matter

If after exhausting all Options and the user is still in the belief that the EFI Boot ROM is the root cause of this issue

Please read all the inform before proceeding

One wrong step in the order they are presented could Brick the machine
