Safari 'tab group' now split but not duplicated or syncing

  1. create tab group with name "TEST"
  2. open some weblinks in this tab group window
  3. go to a New window
  4. open the tab group in that window from the tab group sidebar
  5. add some tabs in this new window
  6. note how the tabs are not syncronised - you can see two entries in the 'tab groups' sidebar

This is in Sequoia 15.5

Now I am not sure if the content will be correctly saved if I close the window for one of these. Or is there a way to merge tab groups?

This doesn't seem like the correct behaviour in my opinion.

ok so the workaround for messed up tabs is this:

let's say you have a duplicated tab group called NEWS

  1. create a new empty tab group called 'temp'
  2. randomly pick one of the 'NEWS' tabs and select all the tabs (you can do this by selecting the left most one, then hold SHIFT and click on the right most one)
  3. right click on any tab and select 'move to tab group' and choose 'temp'
  4. close this window
  5. open a new safari window
  6. open tab group 'temp'
  7. select all the tabs
  8. right click 'move to tab group' and choose 'NEWS'

you should now find that any orphaned or duplicated tabs etc are now cleaned up and you will just have one single NEWS tab with everything on it
