Why does Siri require location to place a call from the contact list?

Asked a million times by others and still no answers...Why does Siri insist on location to place a call?

When I'm driving and I say "Hey Siri, call my Dad." WHY IN THE WORLD IS SIRI INSISTING ON LOCATION (PRECISE NO LESS) LOCATION TO PLACE A CALL FROM THE CONTACT LIST?

Location has ZERO relevance to place a call, especially if the call is in the contact list (often used, local etc.)

Maybe a decade or longer now of Siri disappointment. Expectations remain low - very basic needs and can't even place a call while driving because of nonsensical requirement for location.

"I'm just trying to do my job." - Siri

Please refrain from responding with benefits of location services, generalities around non-discussed location needs and all the other soft reflections from past topic replies deflecting from the simple question as to why Siri insists on knowing one's location to place a call? I can tap a button w/o it knowing the location, but Siri can't tap the same button...nope.

In my case, it only occurs when the phone is locked and you attempt to place the call from the lock screen. If the phone has authenticated you and is active, Siri won't mitch and boan anymore and call.

Why? iOS programmers are weird creatures.

Sir likely needs location services so the area code or prefix required to make a call would be known by the location.

That said, this is a user to user only forum. We aren't Apple. We aren't associated with Apple and Apple isn't here, nor will Apple read or respond to you here.

We can't answer why questions. Suffice to say, Locations Services need to be on for Siri to do her job effectively.

Right, user-to-user forum. There are a lot of smart users around these parts and thought maybe someone would have details on the location requirement. Location is not a dependency to dial a number.

Again, use to user only forum. We don't work for Apple, nor do we have inside knowledge of why anything. As I said above, suffice to say Location Services are required for Siri to work. That's all we can tell you.

And again, everyone knows no know here works for Apple, not authorized to speak on Apple's behalf and have zero official knowledge.

I understand that all you can say is that Siri requires Location Services to place calls - got it.

This message for everyone else..those who have wondered about the same odd requirement...those who may have an understanding or an educated guess based on the career knowledge at other companies...those who may have come across plausible explanations in other forums on the topic.

When location is not required to place a call, and where area codes and zip codes do not matter to place mobile calls within the United States (as in area codes are part of the input provided for the call,) why does Siri require the phone's location to place the call?

Why, because Apple made it that way. Done!

It is because no one from Apple is here to answer a "why" question and all anyone could possibly due is speculate on the usage of location and come up with some kind of theory that would be considered normal on a Social Media site, but this is a Support Site where facts matter. It is not disclosed by Apple, so case closed.

If you want to use Siri to place calls, turn on Location Services, and if you don't, then that is completely up to you.

It's rather simple, really. It's because it's how Apple designed their phone's to work. You are asking a question of other users, none of whom work for Apple or had anything to do with how Apple does anything. So, we can't answer why questions at all. Either use Siri as it was designed to be used, or don't. That's up to you.
