When choosing a partition to install a fresh version of OSx, the service requires the user to authenticate with an apple account twice which is unintuitive. After canceling the second authentication, buttons are greyed out which effectively forces the user to exit the reinstall portal and retry.

You best figure out why there are more than 1 Partition on this drive. and fix it
It is not suggested to Partition ( your nomenclature ) to make separate Partitions on Apple Computers
If is permitted to make a Separate Volume and install the secondary operating to that volume
This would allow the user to Remove the added volume via Disk Utilities
The Space Occupied by the deleted volume ( on an APFS formatted Drive ) would revert to useable space

I personally prefer the shinny M1 over the newer models.
