Every time I make a new playlist I have to change the view to "Songs" and update the "View Options". Is there no way to change all the silly defaults? If feels like a big step backwards from iTunes to me.
Unfortunately no. Each new playlist defaults to that dorky "playlist view" until manually changed. (You are correct, it is a step back from iTunes where each new playlist inherited the view options of the main library.)
