Severe Battery Drain Overnight After Updating to macOS Sequoia 15.6.1 on MacBook M4

Hi everyone,

I recently updated my MacBook M4 to macOS Sequoia 15.6.1, and since then I’ve been experiencing severe overnight battery drain.

  • Before sleeping last night, the battery was around 70%, but by morning it had completely drained to 0%.
  • My battery is new and at 99% health (purchased earlier this year).
  • I’ve already tried the following commands, but they haven’t helped:

sudo pmset -a tcpkeepalive 0
sudo pmset -a powernap 0

  • This issue only started happening after the latest update.

Has anyone else experienced this issue after updating to Sequoia 15.6.1? Any suggestions on how to fix or troubleshoot further would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

I have been reading similar reports on the M4...

I know of know immediate resolve—I would leave it plugged in—no need especially overnight not to have it connected to power.

The rule of thumb—if you are near the mains leave it plugged in, if you need the portability then run on the battery only—this is how you help optimize your battery charging and extend the working life of your battery by reducing the cycle count.

I’m also experiencing the same issue after upgrading to 15.6.1 on a MacBook Pro M2 16-inch. Since the update, I’ve noticed both Wi-Fi instability and unusual battery drain while the laptop is in sleep mode.

To troubleshoot, I have already tried the following steps.

Resetting the Mac and setting it up as new without restoring from a backup.

Resetting network settings and removing/re-adding Wi-Fi networks.

Testing on multiple Wi-Fi networks (home, office, and mobile hotspot).

Booting into Safe Mode and monitoring behavior.

Resetting SMC and NVRAM.

Running Apple Diagnostics (no hardware issues reported).

Checking system logs for wake/sleep and Wi-Fi related events.

Despite these steps, the issue persists. I suspect the Wi-Fi driver may be causing both the connectivity issues and the battery drain during sleep.
