Make the 'select files' window use a consistent sort

if you do not see the menu item, Control click in the menu area to see your options...

In Finder with a window open, press Command-J (shortcut for View menu > Show View Options). You can set grouping and sorting behavior (Group By can be set to None), then click the button at the bottom to Use as Defaults.
