Bug causes music to stop playing "To play X, stop playing on another device"

I have two laptops.

If I am listening to music on one laptop and wake up the other laptop my music will stop and I get alerts on both devices that say "To play X, stop playing on another device".

Steps to recreate:

  1. Listen to music on Laptop A
  2. Pause song on Laptop A
  3. Listen to music on Laptop B
  4. Wait for Laptop A to sleep
  5. Wake Laptop A

Without pressing play, "stop playing" popups open on both screens.

In addition, every time I open either laptop I have at between 1 and 3 "stop playing" popups open and a relentlessly bouncing Apple Music icon. This even occurs in the morning, when neither have been playing music, so it's baffling why they would have any popup. Aside from the bug that causes this, the bouncing icon and popup is exceptionally annoying and the sort of UI design that Apple saved people from in their early days.

A lot of other similar posts have unhelpful comments, like "change your password". This is clearly not a password issue, as it is driven by events on the devices in front of me (opening the laptop being the most clear), but this event is not pressing play. Presumably, Apple Music has a heartbeat, even when not playing music, that is causing this.

Short of fully closing Music on laptop A, or at least playing something not connected to your subscription, before allowing it to sleep, or switching to a family subscription for Apple Music, I doubt there is another way to avoid this annoyance. Are the tracks on laptop stored locally or in the cloud. I've not attempted any tests, but the latter might be more likely to cause an issue with Music when waking up wanting to try to reconnected to its paused stream.
