Search not showing apps on iPhone

When I search to open an app, apps are not showing up. I just see results for web, mail, etc. When I Google the problem, all the results are out of date. Any idea how to fix this? Even if I go into a specific app and click the show in search option, it's not showing up (though it did just occur to me I may need to restart the phone.) Anyway, I shouldn't have to turn on each app individually, so there must be an easier way to do this? Not loving the new settings interface. Can't find anything!!!

When I search the name of an app it always appears and can be launched from the search results. And in Settings/Search the default is ON for all apps. If you have apps that are off they must have been turned off.

You can also open the App Library (last page of the Home screen) and use it’s search, which is independent of the system search.

However, restarting the iPhone is a really good troubleshooting step for anything→Restart your iPhone - Apple Support
