Adobe Acrobat Pro subscription included with external hard drive for iMac

iMac 27" 2019; Sonoma 14.6.1

Just purchase a portable external hard drive. Label on the box offers "One month subscription included for Adobe Acrobat Pro". This was not indicated on the website from which I purchased the device. I do not want the Adobe program. I have a simple easy-to-use program that works well for my needs. I am concerned that there will be no way to reject or bypass the Adobe Acrobat offer and it will load automatically if I proceed with formatting the disk for use on my iMac. Any suggestions?

As you should do anyway, erase the hard disk drive using Disk Utility.

Erasing and formatting erases the contents.

macOS does not have an analog to the Windows ”autorun.inf” feature; a mechanism that runs automatically runs some app from the newly-connected storage device.

No hard disk vendor add-on apps are needed for normal use, as well.

The manufacturer isn't actually offering you anything. You can sign in to Adobe and start any of their apps for a free 30 day trial period. After which, if you don't cancel, it then automatically turns into a subscription.

But as MrHoffman noted, you should simply erase the drive and prepare it for use with a Mac. Do not even think of using any of the junk utilities they love putting on drives.

You should always erase the whole physical drive especially if it is brand new so that it creates a proper & compatible macOS partition table & file system. Manufacturers have been known to use odd style partitioning layouts & formatting, plus they will sometimes place things in a hidden area at the beginning of the drive......those items can sometimes cause problems with an OS.

In addition, it can reveal whether someone is trying to rip you off by selling you a fake or old drive.....this is a new common issue when buying from Amazon third party marketplace (or other similar third party marketplaces most major vendors have added to their site).

Here is an Apple article with instructions for erasing the whole physical external drive:
