Quick Notes not working with Safari

Quick Notes just won’t function properly on my iPad. In the screenshot you’ll see the basic issue.

  • A quick note is created while visiting a site in Safari, by selecting New Quick Note from Control Center.
  • The Note is automatically linked to the site, as seen by the header at the top of the Note.
  • The Note remains available during the same visit it was created, in the form of the tab at the lower right. (Only for this one visit, though. If I leave and return the note does not return).
  • I bring the Note to the front of the Safari page by swiping the tab.
  • I highlight some text on the page and the contextual menu pops up.
  • Scrolling all the way to the right, the only option is New Quick Note. There’s no Add to Quick Note, as expected.

I’m on iPadOS 18.5

I think I know what you want to do, but to my knowledge there has never been an option to add to an existing Quick Note. You can open previously created Quick Notes using the Notes app, or you can add information to that new Quick Note before tapping Done, but I am at a loss to understand what you are expecting to see. Where did you learn of the ability to do that?
