Apple Maps app on Mac doesn't work

I enter an address on Apple Maps app on my Mac and ask for directions. The spinning lines and "Loading ..." stay on the screen. I let it sit for more than half an hour and Maps still couldn't find directions. I loaded Google maps and asked for directions to the same location and received them in less than five seconds.

Why does Apple Maps have so many problems and issues? I would prefer to use it but it either takes forever to find directions (if it finds them at all) and has sent me to the completely wrong location for an address multiple times.

Is there some kind of settings file or some way to improve my experience, or should I just give up and stick with Google Maps or Waze?

You should use whatever application works best for you.

Apple's troubleshooting information doesn't specifically address your issue but it might give you some hints on what to try:

I also suggest that you try creating a new user account and seeing if you see problems there. You can also try starting your Mac in safe mode then restarting.

If none of those things help, there are some additional steps you can take such as posting a diagnostic report using etreCheck:

I haven't had any problem with Apple Maps for years. On the other hand, the last time I tried to use Google Maps for some serious navigation, it directed me over a road that was impassable by anything less than a large pickup truck and had been that way for years. I nearly ripped out parts of my undercarriage. Someone just ahead of me had to turn around, too. Apple Maps has never done anything like that.
