Apple TV on iPad mini goes audio only once an episode or film starts

When I use the Apple TV app on the iPad mini I get full video and audio for previews, recaps and trailers but lose the video once an episode or film starts. Audio is fine and can get subtitles as well just no picture.

Tried switching on and off and a hard reset of mini to no success.

it’s working fine on older iPad but want the video back on mini as it’s where I watch mostly and also when out and about.
