Please delete my account!

Hi,

It’d be great to have more control over posts here—things like editing, updating, deleting, or archiving questions and responses, and ideally the option to delete an account with all associated content.

Sometimes I work something out and don’t want my old posts hanging around as reminders of a temporary state of mind. Being stuck with them feels a bit punitive—like being forced to keep a rant long after it’s cooled off.

Is there any way to delete, close, or archive a question once it’s resolved? And if not, can account deletion take posts with it?

Thanks for your help.

Posts cannot be deleted except by the moderators.

Accounts will only be deleted if some serious fault occurs. And usually posts remain, with an anonymized user name.

The community is meant as a knowledge base for the future so people can look for and find answers. Deleting posts would go against this and even post you think are punitive to you, may end up helping someone else down the road, specially if you come back and post your solution.

Posts are all kept, seemingly forever, and you can save bookmarks to things you may want to reference later.

You are able to edit your question for 15 minutes after posting it. One those 15 minutes is over, editing is no longer allowed. Adding additional posts to a live question after 15 minutes have passed can be used to clarify any issues.

Name changing is also limited to the Moderators to keep things consistent. Allowing people to constantly change their name would make this even more confusing in the long run.,

Moderators handle all aspects of changing a user name and editing/deleting posts. The purpose of that is to prevent users who do go on rants, harass others, or simply post Spam and then think they can change their profile name or delete the account and sign up with a different one and continue with those same types of posts. You will see this type of behavior quite frequently on other sites, but thankfully not here due to the users being held accountable.

The moderators can assist in a User Name change if you would like that to be done. Note that changing the user name does not delete posts from your previous user name, it changes changes the user name on those posts as well.

You can unsubscribe from a previous post so you no longer receive any email notifications.

As we all sign in here with our Apple Account/Apple ID password, deleting an account could be catastrophic to your other Apple Account/Apple ID requirements.

On your behalf, I will ask the mods to delete all your posts. If they are OK with that, your Apple Account/Apple ID is not compromised but no posts will show up in a search for your username.

Usernames were once user-changeable until people abused the system As I've been here forever it seems, I remember that time too well. See my response in this recent thread:

How do I changed my profile name? - Apple Community

Beyond that, Apple pays for these forums. Apple's playground—Apple's sandboxing—Apples rules. These are, as a result, among the safest of all forums.

Watch for an email from the mods to the address associated with your Apple Account/Apple ID. If you do not here from them, there is a moderation team email address in the Terms of Use to which we all agreed on signing up here.

Thanks for getting back to me! So just checking—if someone’s been frustrated with an issue and maybe didn’t word things perfectly, but it’s all respectful and well-meaning, that’s okay here? Basically, a safe space to vent a bit without being harsh?

I can already see there are some big contributors here, really appreciate all the advice—I’m new, so still figuring things out.

In that case, I’ll “virtually” update this post’s title to no longer request deleting my account!

You're all good! It is always frustrating whenever we experience a problem no matter if it is our fault or Apple's fault and we can still be respectful of others. That is true for any support topic or communication in general. Nobody here is going to claim they are perfect or even that Apple is perfect, mistakes happen and we should all own them.

Of course, this is a safe environment moderated by Apple, so any harassment or hateful speech is not allowed and will be dealt with.

Especially if you're new here or new to the problem you're having, you may not get it quite right the first time. You'll find that people will often ask clarifying questions, e.g., "What do you mean by x? Can you give an example?" They don't do that to be difficult, but to help figure out exactly what the problem is so they can best answer it.

And everyone gets frustrated once in a while. As long as you express it without being mean or rude, and it's not the only thing you post, it will generally be fine.

As long as rants aren't offensive or combative and there's a question or legitimate issue in the rant its mostly o.k.

Anything the moderators fond goes again the ToS, will be pruned or envied entirely and a warning issue.

If the post was left with no editing, then it was fine and does not need to be removed.
