On models with a USB-C connector, you may be able to connect iPad to a USB or Thunderbolt 3 port on the display.

If the charge cable that came with your iPad isn’t compatible with the port on your display, TV, or projector, do the following:

  1. Plug a USB-C Display AV Adapter or USB-C VGA Multi-port Adapter into the charging port on iPad.
  2. Connect an HDMI or VGA cable to the adapter.
  3. Connect the other end of the HDMI or VGA cable to the display, TV, or projector.
  4. If necessary, switch to the correct video source on the display, TV, or projector. If you need help, use the display’s manual.
  5. If the display doesn’t turn on when you connect it to iPad, unplug it from iPad, then plug it back in. If that doesn’t work, unplug the display from its power source, then

See this I think the dock is causing the problem, what is happening if you connect the iPad directly?

Thank you. The satechi dock works well using the above steps with my MacBook. My screen has an HTML port which I plug into the dock and it connects immediately

But when I do the same steps with my iPad mini 7 pro it doesnt connect. The monitor stays blank and after a few minutes goes to sleep due to inactivity. I tried turning the screen on and off and disconnecting it and it doesn’t seem to help.

I can’t attach the iPad mini directly to the screen because it only has an HDMI port and not a USBC-c port.

Not all USB-C hubs work well with iPad. When choosing a USB-C hub for iPad, you would be well advised to select a hub with specific compatibility with iPad/iPadOS.

You chosen hub should support USB PD (Power Delivery) - and should be connected to your USB-C Power Adapter (capable of supplying at least 20W) via the corresponding USB-C pass-through power connection; the USB-C Power Adapter will be supplying power to both the hub and the iPad.
