Seagate external HD is unrecognizable to Mac Mini running 15.6.1

I’ve tried plugging it into a different computer but have the same problem. I can’t try a different cord because it is proprietary to the Seagate drive. I’ve run first aid in disk utility but that didn’t solve the problem.

Is the cable detachable? If so, then it is highly unlikely to be proprietary. It will be some form of USB cable whether with a USB-C connector or perhaps a micro USB-B connector....both of which are industry standards. If the cable is hard wired, then perhaps the connector or the cable itself is damaged or defective which then renders the entire drive defective.

Try connecting the drive directly to the computer and disconnect all other external devices in case one of them is causing a problem.

If you are already connecting the drive directly to the computer, then try connecting the drive to a USB3 powered hub to see if that makes any difference.

Also, you need to determine whether the physical drive is even seen by the system. Within Disk Utility you may need to click "View" and select "Show All Devices" before the physical drive appears on the left pane of Disk Utility. If you don't see the physical drive, then you have a hardware issue of some sort (computer, drive, cable, port).

If you see the physical drive, but it won't mount, then that is a different issue where the partition table and/or file system likely has some sort of issue, although you still cannot completely rule out a power/cable/drive related issue.
