iPhone 14 camera issues after iOS 18.6.2 update

I recently updated my IPhone 14 to 18.6.2, and have started having many issues with both the front and back cameras. They either won’t turn on at all, or will work for a moment then completely freeze up. I have also noticed when I try to take a picture, nothing is taken even though it recognizes me pressing the button. This issue is persistent not just on the iPhone camera app, but even on different social media cameras also.

I have also restarted my phone to no changes either.

Have you Force Restarted your phone, which is different from a restart? I do this after EVERY iOS update --> Force restart iPhone - Apple Support

Also, how is your battery health on your phone? Open Settings > Battery > Battery Health - if it is at 80% or lower, the battery in your phone needs to be replaced at your Apple Store Genius Bar.

OK, storage isn't an issue. It's possible you have a hardware issue with the cameras, which coincidentally appeared after the update. If the update caused a camera issue, it would have caused one for everyone and most definitely didn't. This forum would be flooded with complaints if it did.

This next suggestion is a nuclear option, but what Apple itself would likely recommend. Back up your iPhone (preferably to your computer with iTunes or Apple Devices on a Windows computer or Finder on a Mac). Then restore your iPhone from backup. This will eliminate any issue which "could" have been caused during the update on your phone. See how to do that here, but make sure you know all your passwords, such as Wifi, etc., before you do this --> Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from a backup - Apple Support

If there is still an issue with the Cameras after doing this, you'll need to schedule an appointment at your Apple Store Genius Bar to have the hardware on your phone tested.

How I sorted my issue out on 14 Plus

  • Backup, then erase the phone
  • Set up the phone as a new phone (don't transfer in any settings detected from your iCloud)
  • After being taken to the home screen, check the camera by keeping the mode as standard, and if it's still blurry, pan between portrait and photo mode. The lens should eventually adjust itself and get clear.
  • Erase the phone again, then restore your backup.

For general storage, I have 86.89 GB of 128 used up. Then on ICloud, 46GB of 200. If it means anything, when I noticed the issue I upgraded my ICloud storage plan to the 200GB (my 50GB plan was almost full and I wanted to back it up just incase anything else happened), and sometimes the front camera will be fully operational/take pictures normally. Other times it just does not come on at all. But haven’t had any luck with the back camera yet, as it still freezes up.

Having the exact same issue with my iPhone 13 Pro Max. Right after update, the back cameras either freeze or make rainbow line colored view and won’t take the pictures. After doing the suggestion it worked for a little bit but started again. My phone even told me it had unknown camera parts in it even though I bought it brand new and never done any repairs to it.
