Scam pop-up takes control of computer. Blames facebook.

I was browsing with Chrome...possibly on Etsy. gmail was active. Suddenly the entire screen changes to a warning with phone numbers, etc., and a voice over telling me not to shut down my computer. It says I probably clicked on a virus on Facebook. Identifies itself as Microsoft. I do not use Microsoft anything as far as I'm aware.

I did emergency shut down. Restart went properly. Chrome asked me if I wanted to restore the pages I was using and when I clicked yes, the scam ad opened again. That was yesterday.

Today, it happened again.

I'm using a MacBook Pro 2023 running an Apple Studio Display and I just updated the OS to Sequoia 15.6.1.

How can I keep this from happening?

MacBook Pro 14″, macOS 15.6
