I have a MacBook Air 15" with the M@ chop and running Mac OS Sequoia 15.5.
I cannot use the "MAIL" app anymore as it says i am out of space and i see the the System data is using 220 gb of my HD .
Deleting 60,000 old emails and transferring files to the External hard drive to reduce space also dont work for more than a day or so and again I run out of space.

Try something like OmniDiskSweeper for a GUI to get a good look at itemized file size and location:

If you have less than 10% of your storage free, then you may not be able to even delete large files. Readjusting and recalculating will certainly take longer. You may just need to wait a day or two for things to catch up and settle down. Then delete a little more. You can't expect much to work right with no room to move around.
If all else fails you can erase all and start over and migrate all back. This usually will reduce the system data. I have done that several times with success.
