Apple Music won't play on Mac mini, requires restart

The music app opens fine, but then when I select some music to play nothing happens. The progress bar at the top of the app screen doesn't move. There are no error messages. I tried shutting music down the music app and then restarting it whilst holding down the shift key (which I was told would clear music's cache), but didn't work. I have to shut down the mac mini and then restart it to get the music app to actually work.

Original Title: Apple MUsic refuses to play. I have to shut my mac mini down and restart it, only then will selected music actually play? Anyone else have this problem please?
