Is Car Play fixed in 18.6.2

I have a 15 Pro Max that is still happily on 17.7.2. I could not care less about Apple Intelligence and iOS 18 as a whole and have never considered updating to iOS 18. Even less interested in 26. The only reason I am considering updating now is for the security updates in 18.6.2.

I however keep hearing about Car Play issues in iOS 18….even 18.6.2. My car has wired Car Play but I use an adapter to make it wireless. I’ve read about phone overheating issues, connection issues, etc.

I value a stable reliable phone where everything works more than the latest and apparently not so greatest.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

PS: Is there not a way to still update to the latest version of 17 that was also recently released? That would be first 🏆!

Same here. New iPhone 16 Plus was working beautifully with my Skoda Kodiaq. Updated to 18.6.2 last week and now nothing. It charges with a wired cable but no trace of connection. My wife’s and son’s older iPhones on older OS connect just fine. So it is 100% the update that is the problem.

You “keep hearing” from a tiny minority of users who always have some kind of issue with anything and everything. It’s a basic law of the universe that karma craps on some people.

I just updated my iPhone 16 Pro to iOS 18.6.2 and my wireless CarPlay works just fine on my 2024 GM vehicle. Of course it has always worked fine ever since i started using it. The vast majority of users have not experienced any problems with CarPlay and iOS 18.6.1 or .2

Stay on iOS 17.7.2 until Apple ceases to support it if you like.

And speaking of reliability there are still some who claim iOS 17.7.2 is the worst update Apple has ever released and have issue after issue with it. See what I mean?

Then I suspect you will be waiting a very long, long time. Do you plan to do any troubleshooting on your own or just sit back and demand something that will not likely come.

If you would consider performing at least some the troubleshooting advice many others have given in these forums then try this...

On your iPhone turn off Bluetooth. Now click on the icon representing your car and select ‘forget this device”. Also remove your iPhone from your car’s Bluetooth menu. Now restart your iPhone, turn Bluetooth back on and reconnect your car according to your car’s instructions.

I've been using CarPlay for years. No problems at all with any version of iOS up to and including 18.6.2.

Several auto manufacturers have a reputation for problems with compatibility due to taking shortcuts in the coding for their head units. Cheap Chinese "CarPlay compatible" systems are also known to have issues.

In my case I have a Kia Sportage PHEV 2024 and CarPlay connected by wire. Until yesterday I was using CarPlay without any problem for 18 months and many iOS updates. I usually connect with a wireless dongle. But now the dongle or wire connection don’t work. Clearly an update trouble. My suv has the last available system update from Kia (November 2024 I believe)…
