I've tried five times, with the help of live apple support, to transfer data from my old macbook to my new one. I'm now thinking I made a big mistake by sticking with Apple. The transfer stops halfway to 3/4 way thru saying the new macbook isn't connected to the old.

if the old computer drive is working in a state of failure, could be your issue.
Try a different backup to do the transfer...like one of your recent Time Machine backups and compare your results
you are always better off using a cable connection.

If you have a lot of data to move and you’re using WiFi, the transfer can get interrupted by interference.
I’ve found the best way to set up a new Mac is from a current Time Machine backup of the old one, right during the initial setup. I use an SSD backup, transfer is fast. I’ve done that twice this week.
