Most times I lock the screen the lock sound either doesn't play, or it plays at a very low volume. In very rare occasions the lock sound is normal. It's turned on in the settings.

If you notice that you are not able to hear the click sound every time your iPhone is locked, it usually means that the surrounding environment is too loud and is overpowering the lock sound. The iPhone’s lock sound has a fixed volume and does not adjust dynamically based on your environment. There are no settings on the iPhone to make the lock sound louder or softer. The only control you have is to either turn the lock sound on or off under Settings > Sounds & Haptics > Lock Sound.
