Disconnect external audio devices from your Mac
To make sure that audio isn't being sent to an external device that supports audio, disconnect any such devices:
- Headphones or external speakers connected to the 3.5mm headphone jack
- External audio interfaces, USB headphones, or USB speakers connected to the USB or Thunderbolt ports
- External displays connected to the USB or HDMI ports
Check the sound settings on your Mac
- On your Mac, choose Apple menu > System Settings (or System Preferences).
- Click Sound.
- Click the Output tab, then select the built-in speakers, as indicated in Type column.
- At the bottom of the window, check these sound settings:
- Drag the “Output volume” slider to adjust the volume.
- Make sure the Mute checkbox is not selected.
- Test the sound again.
Still not working?
If the internal speakers on your Mac still aren’t working, you might need service. Set up service.
