Disconnect external audio devices from your Mac

To make sure that audio isn't being sent to an external device that supports audio, disconnect any such devices:

  • Headphones or external speakers connected to the 3.5mm headphone jack
  • External audio interfaces, USB headphones, or USB speakers connected to the USB or Thunderbolt ports
  • External displays connected to the USB or HDMI ports

Check the sound settings on your Mac

  1. On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > System Settings (or System Preferences).
  2. Click Sound.
  3. Click the Output tab, then select the built-in speakers, as indicated in Type column.
  4. At the bottom of the window, check these sound settings:
    • Drag the “Output volume” slider to adjust the volume.
    • Make sure the Mute checkbox is not selected.
  1. Test the sound again.

Still not working?

If the internal speakers on your Mac still aren’t working, you might need service. Set up service.
