Suspicious NFC and QR scanner app with unknown developer on iPhone

Has anyone else seen or had anything to do with this app? It’s not in the Apple App Store and I do NOT know how it ended up on my phone. I can NOT find anything out about the developer “Blue Brite LLC”

The app it’s self is a NFC scanner and a QR scanner but does NOT work. The permissions are Camera and Location.

It’s spyware right?

Are you sure you do not mean Blue Bite LLC? They had the Decode app in the App Store but it has now been removed. Any modern iPhone has NFC and QR scanning now built in. When the iPhone 7 was first released it was capable of NFC, but required 3rd party software for tag reading, and that is no longer the case. The company has moved on to B2B solutions, which is much more profitable than an app no one needs.

When an App is removed from the App Store, it will remain on your device, and you just won't be able to redownload it again when you delete it. There simply is no reason for them to continue to pay to have the app available in the store when no app is needed for those features any longer.

You can found out more about the company and also the exact app icon you see here:

I assume you are not in the EU. If that is the case, you do not have any side loading options that could be a risk to the security of your device.

  • I have know idea when it was downloaded. You would have to look through your Purchase History.

View your purchase history for the App Store and other Apple media services - Apple Support

  • I inquired about your region, because the EU does allow bypassing the App Store where you would not see it in your Purchase History.
  • Another way an app can be downloaded is if your installed their Developer Certificate. This would be at Settings > General > VPN & Device Management. You should not have any Certificates installed there as that is one way to reduce your security and you would see a message stating that if you attempted to install a Developer Certificate..
  • If you had an iPhone prior to the iPhone 13 and set up the phone from the backup, it may have been downloaded on that phone.
  • If you shared your Apple Account with anyone else, a download in the App Store on their device could download the app on your phone. This could have happened a long time ago and does not mean you are currently sharing your Apple Account.
  • Obsolete apps will remain on your phone after they have been removed by the Developer in the App Store until you delete them. Have you deleted this one yet?
