WD My Passport for Mac change read only

I need to remove some files backed up to my WD My Passport for Mac

but it has a read only for sharing and permission. I need to change that to be able to delete some files. How do I change that. The format on it is APFS

If you have set up the drive as a Time Machine backup drive, then the “read only” status is the expected default in current versions of macOS.

And files may no longer be deleted from the backup drive without corrupting the entire backup set.

Why do you want to delete files?

If the drive is becoming too full, the best you can do is either reformat and erase the drive and start a new backup set, or retire this drive and put in service another new drive and start a fresh backup set in that.
