macbook pro 13" M2 2022 -- touch bar is not working after upate to Sequoia 15.6

This issue occurred after recent software update (about one week ago) and persists. I note that in system settings/keyboard there is no option to select touch bar, so I cannot change or customize settings there. The touch bar is just a dead black bar now and does not function at all.
