Sudden appearance of skg_events files in my computer's Google Drive sync folder

Today I discovered that I have over 211,000 skg-events files in one of my primary user folders. This folder is synced with my Google Drive. These files were all added on July 15, 2025 or August 8, 2025. Any ideas as to why this happened and how to prevent it from happening again?

Mac Studio, macOS 15.6

Thanks for taking the time to look and ask. I removed the 211,000+ files from my computer and from my Google Drive, but I still have no idea why they were saved to the wrong folder on my computer. They are supposed to be saved and managed in my user/library/… folder, but they ended up being saved in a different folder on my computer. That folder automatically syncs with my Google Drive, so that is how they ended up in my Google Drive as well. I don’t think the problem is with the Google Drive. It is just doing what it is supposed to do syncing a designated folder on my computer with a folder on my Google Drive. I think the problem is on the Apple side.

Google Drive/Google Drive sync has nothing to do with Apple. Uninstall Google drive and compare your results, then compare your results and report back...

Ai spits this out w/ the query: "skg_events files in a Google Drive sync folder (macOS)"

"skg_events" files found within a Google Drive sync folder, particularly on a macOS system, are generally associated with Spotlight Knowledge Event journal files.

In other words, these are likely related to how macOS's Spotlight search feature indexes files for faster retrieval.

Spotlight Indexing: Spotlight constantly scans your files to create an index that allows for rapid searching. When this indexing happens, it can generate these "skg_events" files as part of its process.

—Uninstall Google Drive to mitigate the issue

—Add Google Drive to your Spotlight>Privacy via >System Settings to exclude

—submit your Apple Feedback here:  Product Feedback - Apple

—verify your OS is current, macOS 15.6.1
