Sharing location with a specific contact in Find My

In Find My, I’m having trouble sharing my location with my mom. I’m able to share with other contacts but not her.

I have the request from her in my People list but when I click Share in response, it looks like it’s loading for about 10 seconds and then just stops trying. Or when it does respond, I click “share indefinitely” but the phone just returns to the same options (her picture and location with the options to share or don’t share). If I try to send my location to her through Find My or via text, I get error messages.

I’ve tried all the usual troubleshooting tips that I find online, including resetting my location services to factory and repeatedly rebooting my phone after making any changes.

Also, I have an iPhone 16 Pro with iOS 18.6 running. Can anyone help me figure this out?

No. It doesn’t give me that option for her in the Contacts app. When I open her info, it gives me the following options:

-Send message

-Share contact

-Add to favorites

-Add to emergency contact

-Block caller

If I try to send her my location through iMessage, the error statement says “Share Location Unavailable. Please try again later.”

When I try to respond to her request to share location in Find My, I don’t get any error messages. It either just doesn’t respond at all (I keep pushing the button to Share but it just acts like I’m not pushing it). That is the most common thing it does. Sometimes, it will respond and the spinning circle/loading icon pops up for about 10 seconds. Then it just goes away like nothing happened.

What you're seeing is correct. Sharing from contacts went away with the release of iOS 17.

Unless you tell us what the "usual troubleshooting tips" that you've tried are, it's likely that people will keep guessing things you've already tried. So other than rebooting your phone and resetting Location and Privacy (which may not be relevant), what have you done?

Can you share your location with her from Messages? Or share your ETA from Maps? I realize these are just one time sharing but it might be a useful test.
