Apple Watch sound keeps getting turned off automatically

I use my watch all day and I need the sound to hear alerts. I can feel the hepatics sometimes but not always and miss vital alerts. I have noticed when I am doing work or taking care of my foster cats that my alerts will be turned off without turning the silent mode on. This is a real issue if you need the audio. I was trying to find out why it's happening and noticed if I have my arms crossed with an arm over the watch when an alert happens the silent mode turns on. I want to use the cover to silence for alerts sometimes but I don't want sound always turned off automatically unless I turn silent mode on. If you know how to stop this from happening I would really like to know.
